Sony axes 3.5in floppy diskette

Sony has announced it is to stop selling the iconic 3.5 1.44MB floppy disk by the end of the year and cease production by March 2011. Sony, which launched the 3.5 floppy in 1981 has 70 per cent of the world market but has seen sales decimated by recordable CDs, USB sticks and cheap portable media.
